Barker Brook Golf Club in Oriskany Falls is a tale of two sides. The front nine is tight, heavily wooded with ponds, streams and elevation changes. A careful approach strategy on holes 4-9 will aid in holding the ball on the slick and slanted, well groomed greens. The back nine delivers more gorgeous views of rolling hills and gigantic white wind mills. The number 16 par 5 is a sharp dog leg right around the woods demanding a well positioned long drive. A confident approach shot over water is the only way to get a birdie or perhaps an eagle.

Owner, Michael Intartaglia, and Jordan Keshler, Superintendent have really cared for the course, improving features every year. Michael’s mom adds a floral touch to the tee boxes and beyond.  John, the manager is there by 6 so you can get an early start on the day. And it’s a big start with a slight dogleg right par 5. A left approach shot will keep your ball dry. Number 3 returns you quickly to the clubhouse in case you forgot something. Grab a drink and pass under the apple trees to reach number 4, a deceptive par 3 you’ll be proud to par. Then prepare for a beautiful view on 5. The elevated tee box from the tips overlooks the fairway with a pond on the right side where white tailed deer are often seen quenching their thirst. The 100 foot high forest on the left is reminiscent of the big green wall at Fenway Park and requires a laser straight drive. The left side of the fairway is guarded by a small stream and more woods.  Another straight and ambitious second shot will set you up for a possible birdie, but beware as the rounded green heavily slants left to right. A light chip and putting touch will prevent the ball from rolling off the right side which borders a creek beside the cart path. Most are pleased with a par on this hole.

The clubhouse serves food drinks as well as apparel and accessories. Barker Brook is a showcase of Central New York. Close to Turning Stone, this is a great track for a fraction of the price. It is a super option for individual, league play or tournament events with ample room for celebrations. For more info, call 315-821-6438.
